Vegas 5 more stable?

Hi. I've been a Vegas user since Vegas Audio 2.0. I know the program very well and I love using and has been very stable...until version 4. Version 4 has hung up on me multiple times and, without getting into the hairy details of when and why, it's annoying.

So my question is: Is Vegas 5 more stable than Vegas 4? Is it worth the upgrade, because if it has the bugs fixed from version 4, I will definately upgrade because I love the way the program is set up.

Thanks.

NOTE: I have Vegas 4.0e plus DVD

i really would classify vegas 4 as the pillar of stability ... i have not had vegas 5 crash on me either though (ever) ..

if you have a problem with 4 , i doubt that 5 will offer you much of anything better in stability in that department .. i would sort of what the issue is first ..

In my opinion, they are the same. (Very stable)

Much depends, however, on your system.

4 is rock solid

"without getting into the hairy details of when and why"

Please do go into detail on this- perhaps we can provide a solution to your problems.

Anytime Vegas 4 has crashed or locked up on me, I've been able to track it down to other hardware attached to my machine. It's never locked up on me from strictly using the software.

Thanks all for your replies. I guess I will need to look in to the details of when and why it crashes. I have downloead and installed new drivers for my sound card. I have an M-Audio Delta 1010. Perhaps it's their ASIO drivers because since Vegas 4 now supports ASIO, I am using those so I can do input monitoring when I record music. That's when I started having the problems. Perhaps the new drivers will be more stable.

Details on my system:
Pentium 4 2GHz
512 MB RAM
Two hard drives, one system (40GB), one audio/video (120GB)
M-Audio Delta 1010
ATI Rage AGP Video Card
IEEE 1294 Fireward Card

Thanks again.

The one and only stability problem I ever noticed with Vegas 4 was some JKL-actions combined with using a certain audio driver. Switching to another driver solved the prob. Vegas 5 also solved that prob. I had no crash at all with Vegas 5.

Unlike V4, V5 has hung up on me several times. OTOH, I'm not certain if it's really V5 at fault or because I'm really maxing out my system. My OS, WinXPPro is installed on my D drive - and, because I've added quite a few new aps lately, that drive is starting to fill up. I suspect this may be the source of my problems.

The really good and refreshing news is that, while V5 has crashed on me a few times (click on external preview, get hour glass, then lose control until WinXP proclaims that the program is no longer responding), I've never lost any work because of it. V5 always rewards a restart with the opportunity to reopen an auto-saved version of the work that crashed and warns me to rename/resave the file immediately.

So, I'm not complaining. Love the program.
