New V5 Problem

VZUAL wrote on 5/15/2004, 10:58 PM
Removed Photoshop CS using their official uninstaller. No problem except V5 is now dead and will not launch. V5 error message reads... MSVCR71.dll not found.

Tried reinstalling the application as suggested in the message. This went without incident, but same error is seen. Anyone know whose file MSVCR71.dll is, and how to get it back? Appears Adobe and Sony may both be calling it their child.

V4e still running fine on this same system, as is Adobe PS 6.

I did a search and found I have several copies of this file on my machine and I do not have Photoshop CS.

One of the copies is in the Microsoft .Net framework, so you may want to reinstall .NET

Also found multiple copies of MSVCR71.dll on this machine, including copies in Sony V5, Sony DVDA2, and MS Net Framework.

Find that DVDA2 is now dead as well, with same error message. Will try the MS Net Framework reinstall.

I have .Net, V5, and PS CS on my system. Here are the locations of my 3 files:

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\msvcr71.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\URTTemp\msvcr71.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcr71.dll

I also have two more-one for Sandra and one for Kazetachi. They wouldn't enter into it because they keep private copies but it makes me wonder if one of the plugins requires it.

Try www.dll-files.com and download the file msvcr71.dlll and copy it inot your c:\windows\system32 directory

It will then be available for all applications. It is a problem with some of the Adobe products in that they remove it as part of the uninstall process.

Thanks for info. Got V5 launching again by doing complete V5 uninstall (not repair), then re- install. This somehow enabled dead DVDA2 to launch again as well.

If this problem does trace to the Adobe CS uninstaller (and conveniently frustrates a rival gaining market share) there may not be a lot of pressure to fix it.

We will check this out. Thanks for letting us know about this.

If indeed the Adobe Photoshop CS installer is removing msvcr71.dll on uninstall (I suspect it is), the best we'll be able to do is make sure our repair installs put it back. Of course, uninstalling and reinstalling our apps will accomplish this as well, but then you'll need to set up all your preferences again.
