+ or - , which is more compatible?

This topic may have already been discussed extensively, but I'm not sure of the answer. The other day I was looking at an online site for professional grade DVD replication, and they had a notice stating that if you mailed them a master DVD, it had to be in the - format. Is the - format more compatible than +? My burner is a + only, and while I've had minimal problems, I was wondering which format was the best to burn to.

Thanks for any advice or comments regarding this!

The "-" format used to be considered more compatible. However, since most players built in the past 18 months can play both, the issue is rapidly going away.

Thanks for the reply. I've been wondering if I ought to be using the - media instead of +, but maybe it's not as big a deal as I thought it might be

As long as what you are currently using works for your needs, then nothing else matters.

ASUS Prime Z590-A Motherboard with Intel Core i7 11700 8 Core / 16 Thread 2.50GHZ, 64GB Crucial DDR4 3200( 4 x 16GB), nVidia GeForce GTX1650Super 4GB DDR5, SoundBlaster X AE5 soundcard, 3 x 4TB Samsung 860 EVO SATA 3 SSD, 2 x 8TB Samsung 870 QVO SATA 3 SSD, 1 x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVME PICE4 SSD, 2 X WD 4 TB NVME PCIE3 SSD, 2 X Viewsonic monitors, LG Blu-Ray writer. Windows 10 (latest build), currently using VMS17 Platinum.

Here's what's really important about this issue. Yes, most players built within the last 2 years probably play BOTH + and - formats. And that's great. HOWEVER, if you plan on distributing your DVD, you'd be much smarter using a - disc because you don't know how old the player it will be playing on is. If a player won't play a + disc, chances are it WILL play a -. The choice is clear (for distributing) use minus. It's a safer bet. I've tested this theory on about 8 different players and - discs play CONSISTENTLY (while + did not play on a few).

Now for my own PERSONAL collection, I use + discs. Why? Because i've ran into less errors/glitches with them. But that's another topic.

Hope this helps.

- format: pioneer standard. + is still in transition and not 100% and never will be as sony and the + camp move to blu ray leaving dvd + behind them to not live upto its promise.

a good example, have a look at the cda forums and ask yourself why cd text was left out of a sony cd authoring app that they apparently had the time to rename and add all sonys cute labels to but not add a standard feature they developed for cd authoring despite repeated please from their own user forum - go figure.
