More VEGAS 5 Problems

VZUAL wrote on 4/30/2004, 11:34 PM
First it was inability to open completed V4e projects. Now find V5 will not open certain V5 projects. Simple example... we open a new V4e project and import just one (4 second) jpg still. Save project with media, close project and click on it in "recent projects" to re-open... no problem. Now make same 4 second project in V5, using same still. Save project with media and close. Click on that (V5) project to re-open and V5 CRASHES right back to the desktop. Problem appeared to be linked to V5 import of certain B&W and Grayscale stills. Eliminating these from old V4e projects finally allowed V5 to open them, but problem has now moved to V5 projects after other stills are imported. V4e does everything we ask. V5 has been totally useless in our work so far.

sounds like the .veg file got corrupted...try opening the .bak file and re-save.....

The .veg file isn't corrupted. The same thing happens to me. There is something in V5 that doesn't like certain jpegs. If you take that same image and convert it to a PSD, no problem. If you try to open that same image in a project in V4, no problem. There is a definite jpeg bug in V5. I have reported it, but anyone else who is having the problem should as well.

Just a thought , Vegas uses QT to decode some still formats, I'm thinking does V5 need a later version of QT to work?

Yes, QT 6 is required for QT to work properly. I think the latest version is 6.5. When you install it, choose to do a custom install and check everything in the dialogue. All components are required.
I'm not sure this solves your stills problem though.

can you email me one of these problem jpegs? dr.dropout@sonypictures.com

also: please specifiy whether or not you have QT, and if yes, have you assigned QT to be the default "opener" of jpegs.

MORE INFO.... I create a simple (text) still in PS 6.0 or Corel PP 12 and save it as jpg, tif, gif, png, and psd. The ONLY IMAGE VEGAS 5 CAN MANAGE IS THE PSD VERSION. The other formats crash the program when a V5 project consisting of one still image is saved and re-opened. Also find that TIF files are not shown in the V5 directory when the "File Open" dropdown is used to add an image to the V5 timeline. Other formats are seen in "projects and media", but you must select the "tiff files only" filter to see tiff files.

I tried to email that address, but got a failure notice.

Using QT 5.05 here at home. None of the formats are associated with it. JPG and PNG behave just fine. Gif loads on the timeline but has a transparent thumbnail although it shows in the preview fine. Tifs won't load at all but I've never had to use them so it doesn't hurt for now.

But no crashing. Maybe I should upgrade quicktime so I can crash too?
