Not bad for a new user but does nothing for previous owners.

Puts a cap on the upgrade price, though.
p@mast3rs wrote on 3/16/2004, 1:49 PM
True, Im expecting the same price as last year ($199) What was the early upgrade price, $149?

I just hope Sony gives us a package deal on upgrading to V5 and DVDA2, and doesn't sock us for $200 clams for each.
Jsnkc wrote on 3/16/2004, 3:06 PM
I wouldn't even waste the money on DVD-A unless they have made some MAJOR improvements to it.

Jsnkc,

Good point. Note to folks under NDAs, when the wraps come off, please let us know about DVD-A2 in comparison to other apps.

I have the feeling it will be competitive.
Jessariah67 wrote on 3/16/2004, 5:46 PM
DVD-A2 hopefully will be competetive...and should include a VERY nice upgrade price for DVDA1 owners who, IMO, paid a rather high price for what the product does.
thrillcat wrote on 3/17/2004, 11:02 AM
Were it just DVDA in the package, I would agree that it was a high price, but the DVDA upgrade also included the Dolby Digital encoder, which is worth more than the upgrade price.

Yes I don't have DVDA but I bought the 5.1 encoder for $279.

>>>Vegas 4 with Screenblast Acid and Vision Series Volume 1, Vegas Workshop Training DVD's = $450 after $50 rebate PLUS FREE UPGRADE TO VEGAS 5
http://www.videoguys.com/vegasvideo.html<<<

This is misleading - well, not really if you read the page. But there are 3 listings - the rebate and free update itself says it is for "...any users who purchased version 4.0 of Vegas or Vegas + DVD software between March 1, 2004 and April 30, 2004"

So - according to the page given -
Option 1: Sony Vegas® 4.0 w/ Screenblast Acid and Vision Series Vol 1
Option 2: Vegas 4+DVD w/ Screenblast Acid and Vision Series Vol 1 PLUS Vegas Workshop training DVDs
Option 3: Vegas 4 w/ Screenblast Acid and Vision Series Vol 1 PLUS Vegas Workshop training DVDs

But if you want more info go to the source - Sony.
http://bssc.sel.sony.com/Professional/markets/sound/vegas_rebate.html.

Some of the info (Follow link for full details) from this page:
~Eligible Models: on Vegas® 4.0 and Vegas + DVD™ video and audio editing software. Only A-stock models are eligible
~Eligible models must be ordered from reseller and shipped to end user customer within the promotion period to be eligible for rebate.
~End user must send printout of completed on-line form, entire ORIGINAL UPC product code label(s) from the box(es) of the software box, and copy(ies) of original invoice(s) to the Reward headquarters postmarked no later than 15 days after date in item #1.,( no later than 30 days after end sale date)

And while the rebate goes along with the dates, the free upgrade seems to be sperate. In other words it seems like you can buy the downloadable version and get the free upgrade to Vegas 5. And the free update does not mention anything about DVDA 2. The rebate seems like it only applies to the boxed version because you need to send the UPC from the boxes.
busterkeaton wrote on 3/17/2004, 2:48 PM
Filmy,

I assume that the UPC symbol is your proof of purchase. However, if you bought the downloadable version from Sony, they would have a record of your proof of purchase. So they would probably use that.

I'm sure the rebate is get to people to buy during this month, because sales probably dropped as people wait for version 5. Also they want to clear out the old stock.

Last year in January, I bought Vegas 3 for $200 at a clearance sale and I got the free Vegas 4 upgrade. It was pretty sweet deal.

Yeah it would seem that would be the logical thing to do but I am only going off of what the Sony site says - and they say you need to send in all 3 items. Plus there is not any mention of a free DVDA update, only Vegas.

I would not make that assumption without asking Sony first. Sometimes they want to move physical inventory and so they give a rebate on the boxed version to clear out their warehouse and not the download version. I’ve seen rebates that specifically say, enclose the UPC or e-mail from your download purchase, and I’ve seen those that say enclose your original UPC period. (i.e., rebate will not be accepted without a UPC) These are the ones trying to incent you to take the box off their hands. Just check with Sony before you assume anything.

This is an "official" reply about all of this in another thread.
