Subject:ac3 learning curve?

I've had V4 for a few months and have figured out most of the features...recently, I decided to spring for the ac3 encoder. I've set thing up in the properties, dropped my video in and everything work fine in V4..

When I try to render to ac3, it saves the stereo file to ac3 and plays fine while previewing in V4, but the rendered file won't play on any of my standalone players (WMP, Winamp, etc)...

What am I missing?

oh..while I'm at it...is there a way to keyframe the ac3 audio to have it pan between speakers at certain times of the video.

I'm looking to do a new intro to a video and want the audio to pan across the speakers while the video intro is playing.

Thanks a million...

I do know that some music players will not be able to decode the AC3 format. For AC3 reading, I use either PowerDVD or my Creative player. You might check to see if your programs support AC3 formats.

And yes, there is a way to keyframe the audio. I think the shortkey is like SHIFT+P, or something like that. (I'm not at Vegas right now, so I can't check it) But try at least right-clicking on the audio track and try to pull up the audio panner box. This will allow you to insert keyframes on the timeline wherever you need them

Hope this was a little helpful!

I think to play back the rendered AC3 audio you need an AC3 decoder on your PC. If you install any DVD playing software (power DVD, Win DVD) that should do the trick.
