Kudos to SONY's PDC implementation

I just have to give credit, where credit is due. Using my beloved UAD-1 plugs in Vegas 4/ACID Pro 4 & Sound Forge 7, is a joy to use, with full plugin delay compensation that actually works, with just about any plugin you throw at it. Even using the SIR plugin (wrapped with Cake's own latest 4.4.0.2, no doubt. This very latest version even give PDC to VST plugs), on an AUX Bus, along with (6) UAD-1plugins, I can set a project to loop a small (2) measure section and the PDC is still sync accurate and tight even after letting it ride for thirty minutes. In this same scenerio, SONAR 2 or 3 drops out, after the end of the first loop point. At best, SONAR will start to lose it's PDC before slowly crapping out and this is with just one UAD-1 plugin and/or SIR in a project. I have used up to (11) PPI's and even the SIR on an AUX BUS, in my Vegas 4/ACID 4 projects and they NEVER lose their PDC. Virtually, with any plugin, the PDC just works. That can't be said for Cake's SONAR. I do remember over the years that Peter H and Ron K would have some spirited discussions over which was the proper way to use and implement DX plugins in a host app. Something about using "in-place buffering" or not. One of the reasons some Cake effects don't work right in SONY apps and vice versa. Well, after comparing the way the two implement it's PDC, I guess we know who was right after all :)

Yes, using my UAD-1 & SIR plugs in Vegas 4/ACID 4 & SF7, with full working PDC, even with project looping enabled, is a pure joy!

How much are UAD cards worth these days?

"How much are UAD cards worth these days?"

Hey Steve,
A lot more than I paid for it :P Seriously, I bought mine last January for $579.00 delivered, from Rik's Music, via a telephone order. After using the UAD-1 for ten months now, I would have paid a lot more for the card, if I had to. I think they are a real bargain for the basic (20 plus) plugins alone, unlike WAVES plugs, you actually get a DSP card to run them on too. They list for $999.00, but you can still get the cards, for less than $600.00, in most places. A real no brainer, for any serious native DAW user, looking to take their mixes to the next level. Good news for UAD-1 users, is the great support and continued development of additonal new plugins. I am eagerly awaiting the forthcoming, vintage Fairchild 670 Stereo Compressor plugin, modeled after units that cost $30,000, if you can find one, on the vintage studio hardware market. Based on UA's excellent modeling of the 1176LN, LA2A & Pultec EQ, I will gladly pay my $149.00 for one of these babies ;P

The UAD-1 is awesome and works great with Vegas/Acid/SF (once you get past some issues discussed earlier in these forums). The reverbs are pretty awesome too. Cannot wait for the Fairchild 670 to come out.
I agree that it's worth it's list price, and even better at its street price.

Umm, billybk: are you a beta tester? The latest public version of Cakewalk's VST adapter is only at version 4.3.1. Or is there a new one out I'm unaware of?

Thanks!

No, I am not a beta tester, but the very latest 4.4.0.2 version is now included with SONAR 3, as part of the update. This latest version now includes PDC for VST plugs. They announced they would be releasing an updated version for registered 4.3.x users sometime in the near future.
