Subject:Rendering AC3 files with video???

This is probably a no-brainer for you guys but when I make a project on VV4 and render it for DVD burning I don't see any other options for AC3 encoding. I only see it on the Sonic Foundry AC-3 option under the “render as” menu, which appears to only render DVD audio. How do you render the video with the 5.1 AC3 encoder? I would appreciate anyone’s input.

Thanks

Whic authoring program are you looking to take your files to ?

If it's to DVDA you have to render the video out as a .mpg file containing no audio (look at the MPEG templates & there are specific ones for DVDA) & then do another render for the ac3 file (same filename as the .mpg file) and both can be loaded to DVDA.

If you was taking the video & audio to programs that require elementary streams, again two renders but the video one will have to be an elementary video file (.m2v) & the audio ac3 as before.

But why cant VV create a muxed mpeg/ac3 file ? I think this is what he wants to know. I cant figure out if this is possible, but it would be useful for archiving purposes.

Thank you for your help vonhosen.

Like Chris2003 posted, I wonder why you can't render them together? It would seem like a time saver rather then having to render them separately. It must be some kind of licensing issue with Dolby laboratories and the Main Concept encoder.

Scripting might be the answer here. The forum thread below contains a link to a script that probably does what you are asking for, though you will end up with two separate files (there is absolutely no way to put MPEG video and AC-3 audio together in the same file).

There is a new Vegas Scripting forum which you may want to peruse from time to time, too.

If I render a mpeg2 video with DVDA template and then render the sound file with AC3 template into the same folder then load the rendered mpeg2 videofile to a meny page in DVDA and preview theres no sound.
It may sound very corny but how do DVDA "know" that the AC3 file belong to the video and how do they sync together
If I go the other way round render the videofile with pcm sound and then prepare the sound file in DVDA to AC3 theres no problem.
I must have missed something essentiell.
Why render separate streams in VV4 when I can render pcm audio to AC3 in DVDA.
I´m just working with stereo files no 5.1 (home video)
Regards from an AC3 beginner
