Playback following cursor?

trystero wrote on 10/23/2002, 11:34 AM
In CDA v4.5, the playback engine would follow the cursor: if I was playing Track 3 on a project and clicked in the middle of Track 7, playback would continue, but now from that spot in Track 7. This was very useful for comparing levels between tracks (especially when the tracks were from different sources).

I can't find any way to do this in the v5.0 beta: if I click on a new position during playback, the cursor moves, but playback continues from the original location.

Is there any way to get this behaviour in v5.0?

Thanks in advance for any help,

doug

D'oh... never mind. I just discovered that I can do this by clicking above or below the Timeline (in the Marker Bar or CD Layout Bar).

It might not hurt to point this out explicitly in the Help file: it's a useful trick, and I probably won't be the only CDAv4 user to be confused by the inability to do it by clicking in the Timeline.

Doug--I just added this to the "Previewing Your Project" topic in the help file. Thanks for the suggestion--your fellow CDA users thank you. <g>

Yeah I wish they would add this feature into CDA5 cuz i use it very often and I find myself doing trying to do it all the time. I guess it doesnt hurt to do it the new way (clicking on the timeline), but maybe they can allow us to choose this option is preferences...

By allowing clicking in the events to separate the edit cursor from the play cursor, it allows you to be editing while playing.

That is true. It is a little curve from what we are used to, but the functionality makes sense.
